The Goal
Corporate Sabotage is played over a series of workdays. Each workday can be over in a matter of a few minutes, or take longer depending on how many players there are and how long the Performance Review lasts.
During each workday, every player secretly belongs to a team based on their current role. Some employees are trying to expose the spies, some are trying to protect them, and some roles have their own special objectives.
At the end of the workday, players attend the Performance Review and vote to fire a suspected employee or individual Out of Office card.
After the vote:
- the winning team earns a point for that workday
- players keep their individual points across all workdays
- roles are shuffled and reassigned for the next workday
Because roles change every workday, your teammates may be completely different from one round to the next.
The overall game winner is the individual player who wins the most workdays.
Setting Up a Workday
For each workday:
- the gamemaker selects which roles will be used
- there must always be 3 more roles than players
- each player is privately assigned 1 role
- the remaining 3 roles are placed face down as Vacation, Sick, No Show (referred to collectively as "Out of Office")
No one knows which roles are Out of Office unless a role specifically allows them to view them.
The Workday
Each role performs its task during a specific time of the workday. The listed workday times only show the order that tasks occur. For example, a 3:00 PM task happens before a 4:00 PM task. This is simply to make the order clear; the entire workday can still be over in a matter of minutes.
Some roles:
- view cards
- move cards
- protect cards
- gather information
- change teams
- change the vote
Because cards may move throughout the workday, the role you started with may not be the role you end with.
Information gained early in the workday may become outdated later.
During the workday:
- players should remain silent
- players should only look at their own device
- players should never look at another player's screen
- even players with no task (or players that have completed their task) should pretend to be busy so their role remains secret
The Performance Review
At the end of the workday, the Performance Review begins.
Players openly discuss:
- what role they claim to be
- what actions they claim they took
- which players they trust or suspect
- what information they discovered
Players are allowed to:
- tell the truth
- lie (unless you were assigned Honest Abe at the beginning of the workday)
- bluff
- reveal partial information
- accuse other players
Players are NOT allowed to:
- discuss (or text) privately without including everyone in the discussion
- show their phone (or read verbatim what it says)
During the discussion, each player votes to fire one player or one individual Out of Office card.
Winning a Workday
After the vote is final, the player or individual Out of Office card with the most votes is fired, as long as it received more than one vote. If two or more players or individual Out of Office cards are tied for the most votes, they are all fired.
The good team wins if a spy was fired.
The bad team wins if BOTH of these are true:
- No spies are fired
- No scapegoat is fired
The scapegoat (on their own team):
- The scapegoat only wins if they are fired.
- If a scapegoat is fired, the bad team does not win.
- If a scapegoat is fired and a spy is also fired, the good team wins too.
The junior scapegoat only wins if a scapegoat is fired.
Important Notes
- Requires 3 to 16 players, each using their own device.
- Your current role at the end of the workday determines your team and win condition unless a role specifically says otherwise.
- Your original role may change during the workday because some roles move or swap cards.
- A player may begin the workday on one team and end the workday on a completely different team.
- Players are never eliminated from the game. After each workday, roles are reshuffled and a new workday begins.
- The overall winner is the individual player with the most workday victories, not the team that won the most workdays.
- Because teams can change every workday, you may never have the same teammates twice.
- If a role instructs you to move or swap cards, the players involved usually do not learn that their role changed unless you choose to tell them during the Performance Review.
- You are never allowed to show your screen to another player. During the Performance Review, you can reference what your screen says, but do not read it verbatim.
- The gamemaker may participate as a normal player. They have no added information.
- A player may sit out one or more workdays if needed. They may later rejoin during a future workday. New players may also join between workdays.
